Nissan has announced the first ever bi-directional charger for use with the Nissan Leaf. The FE-15 charger is the first bi-directional charger certified in the United States to the UL 9741 safety standard.
In addition to the UL 9741 standard, the FE-15 also has Nissan approval for use with the Nissan Leaf.
Nissan partnered with Fermata Energy to bring this revolutionary technology to the United States.
For those with fleet vehicles and real estate, the FE-15 is fully capable of Vehicle to Building charging.
Buildings with the Fermata Energy Demand Charge Management application can monitor a building’s electrical needs and draw from the Nissan Leaf during high-demand periods. While for those who live in states who support Vehicle to Grid charging, the Leaf can now assist during peak energy periods.
The best part of Vehicle to Grid program is Nissan Leaf owners can now earn some extra income for helping out the grid.
So, not only can Leaf owners help their state, they can also lower their ownership costs.
Nissan confirmed that usage of the charger will not impact the Leaf’s warranty.

Currently, the FE-15 is only available in the United States.
